Indigenous Day of Prayer

Celebrating the Indigenous Day of Prayer - Sunday, June 22 @ 10:00 a.m.

Established in 1971 in our Anglican Church, and June 21 declared National Indigenous People’s Day by the Government of Canada, this is a time to commemorate and honour the history, contributions, and diversity of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples in Canada. The day was chosen as it is the summer solstice which is the longest day of the year and particularly important to indigenous people.

Our liturgy will include prayers of thanksgiving for the first peoples of this land and a reading from an indigenous version of St. John’s Gospel. And, of course we are always conscious of our history with residential schools and other injustices visited upon this community and for the necessity of reconciliation and healing and the path set for us by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (Calls to Action: crc-canada.org).

The Summer Solstice and Pow Wow will be held again this year at Wesley Clover Park, 401 Corkstown Road, Ottawa, June 21 and 22. (www.wesleycloverparks.com)
